When You Go | Ki Teitzei – Week 48
By June Volk
Seventy-four of the 613 commandments in Torah are included in the Parsha of Ki Teitzei. Ki Teitzei means, “when you go.” The first verse of the reading in Ki Teizei (NASB) caught my attention: “When you go out to battle against your enemies” and the verses on “laws of mixtures.” How important it is for us to remember when we go out to battle against our enemies to walk with God and let go of mixtures in our lives.
We need to remember God is with us, and for us, on our good days and more especially on our hard days. We can easily see Him on the good days, but we might have to look more carefully into the mist of unwanted circumstances of hard days to see His Hand at work on our behalf. Somehow, the enemy on the hard days wants us to believe God escaped and took off somewhere. But as we whisper His name and let God know we need Him––His light –– the light of His presence––shines brightly into the mist of our hard day.
Over the years of walking with God, I have discovered that I need to set my face like flint to follow Him. I realized I needed sure foundations from His Word for-–– His Direction––His Exhortation––His Promises.
“If the foundations be destroyed
What can the righteous do?” Psalm 11:3
“Surely the LORD is in this place, and I wasn’t even aware of it!” Genesis 28:16
“For whether we live, we live unto to the Lord, whether we die, we die unto the Lord: whether we live therefore, or die, we are the Lord’s.” Romans 14:8
I remind myself of the Foundation Stone––HOPE. There is always Hope even in the bleakest situations because we serve a God of Hope. When we look at the unwanted circumstances we can be overwhelmed. If we focus on God––on His power––His might––then Hope rises in our heart and the heaviness lifts.
“For You are my hope;
O Lord God, You are my confidence from my youth.” Psalm 71:5
“This hope we have as an anchor of the soul, a hope both sure and steadfast and one which enters within the veil,” Hebrews 6:19
“Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing,
so that you will abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.”
Our Foundation Stones encourage us to keep our eyes on God throughout each and every day and help us to remember He cares even more than we about every detail of our lives.
“Lead me in Your truth and teach me, for You are the God of my salvation; For You I wait all day long.” Psalm 25:5
“The LORD delights in those who fear Him, who put their hope in His unfailing love.” Psalm 147:11
“God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble.” Psalm 46:1
We mustn’t forget the Foundation Stone of ‘casting’ our cares on Him. We are not able to carry heavy burdens and cares, but He easily can! Our burdens don’t weigh Him down. As we give them to Him, our load gets lighter. We can continually throw our cares into His strong, waiting Hands.
“Cast all your cares upon Him, for He cares for you.” 1 Peter 5:7
“Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:6,7
There are many Foundation Stones in Scripture. Ask the Lord to give you Foundation Stones for your life. Whether your day holds good news or bad, ‘filter’ the events of the day through the grid of your Foundation Stones. Learn to stand firm and secure on Him. He Is our Rock! He will always help you to navigate what comes your way. Let us put a stake in the ground to follow Him His way––with a grateful heart.
“May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart
be pleasing in Your sight, O LORD, my Rock and my Redeemer”
My granddaughter, Emily, struggled with her recovery after a surgery which was quite the challenge. I had always said to her, “When you walk with God, Em, life becomes an adventure.” She reminded me when she was in horrible pain, “I’m on an ‘adventure,’ Nana!” We laughed when we could have cried! The wonderful conclusion to having Sure Foundations: The City of Gold Gates open to ‘Whosoever will’ come to know, believe in, and trust Yeshua, Who Is the Holy One of Israel. I’m forever grateful to the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob for opening my eyes to see Him as He Is.
